First day off Prednizone

Charl has been taking a steroid called Prednizone for the last 12 days, to start shrinking his tumour. Of the several possible side-effects, there are a few beneficial ones. The first is that it increases Charl's appetite. This is excellent, because he is unfortunately still losing weight. He feels he's eating like a (in his words) "pig", while I say, he's just eating like a normal Overend. The second, albeit odd, side effect of this drug is its energy-inducing properties. It makes you feel better, stronger, more energetic. That's great and everything, except Charl can't stay on this drug permanently. So before his diagnosis was final, and the doctor put him on this steroid, walking down the hall at the hospital was onerous for him. He was very tired after very small bursts of activity. The day after he started taking the drug, he was about 80% back to normal levels - a truly significant change in his physical abilities - including no longer being winded or exhausted by the minorest of exertions.

SO... we have become quite accustomed to this 'new' Charl... and sadly have to go off the Prednizone today. The experts around us tell us that he should expect a "crash" effect - like stopping an energy supply abruptly. He takes his pills in the morning, and this was the first morning he didn't take them. So far so good. We expect him to be quite weak/fatigued tomorrow morning (they said it might be hard to get out of bed as an example.) Right now he's resting.

Other than this, his spirits remain high (way to go, honey!) and we wait to see what happens.
PS thanks for the call from another South African contingent today. Man, you people are everywhere! ;)
